Spanish Supreme Court magistrate Pablo Llarena confirmed this Monday, October 19, the lifting of the national arrest warrant for the former president of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont.
He determined that the Constitutional Court’s doctrine regarding the amnesty for the crime of embezzlement is applicable to Puigdemont’s case, local media report.
The decision is based on a Constitutional Court ruling that granted relief (amparo) to former regional minister (consellera) Dolors Bassa and established criteria for granting amnesty for embezzlement linked to the independence process.
Consequently, Llarena has rejected an appeal filed by the political party Vox against his October 6 decision to provisionally set aside the arrest warrants for Puigdemont.
