Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores plead not guilty to new charges in the U.S.

Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores plead not guilty to new charges in the U.S.

Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, appeared before U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein in New York, entering the courtroom with shackles on their ankles.

Both rejected allegations regarding the purported torture of U.S. citizens and individuals held in the custody of Venezuelan authorities. Maduro described the document as containing "false and mendacious accusations," while Flores asserted that she is "completely innocent and not guilty" of all charges.

After greeting the judge in Spanish and offering a gesture of farewell upon their departure, a new judicial schedule was set. The next hearing will take place on December 17 to address issues of sovereign immunity and a potential dismissal of the case, while the trial has been scheduled for June 14, 2027.
