Cuba accused US Secretary of State Marco Rubio of pressuring foreign leaders to change their positions ahead of a UN General Assembly vote on a resolution demanding an end to Washington's decades-long economic embargo against the island.
“US Secretary of State, nervous and anxious about another defeat at the United Nations, is pressuring and blackmailing heads of state and government of several countries to change their vote against the blockade,” Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said in a post on US social media company X.
Rodriguez accused Washington of collectively punishing Cubans and urged the international community to oppose US policy.
The General Assembly will vote on a non-binding resolution calling for an end to the US embargo on Cuba, which has repeatedly received broad international support.
