"God chose me": Lula links his victory to divine intervention and explains why

On October 25, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his conviction that he had been chosen by divine providence, noting that there are people who are better qualified than he is.

In an emotional speech delivered after the final election results were announced, the president thanked God and the people for his victory in the second round of the election, which took place on Sunday and pitted him against Senator Flávio Bolsonaro.

"I always think that God has been very generous to me, because there are so many people better qualified than I am—so many people with more degrees, so many who have read more books, so many who have studied more. And why? God chose me," the leader declared.

The politician stated that he constantly feels "the finger of God" upon his head. He expressed his gratitude to God, as well as to the men and women of his country, for the strength they mustered.

According to the results from Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court (TSE), with 100% of the polling stations counted, Lula received 51.79% of the vote, while Bolsonaro garnered 48.21%.

With this outcome, at the age of 80, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has once again made history, becoming the president of Brazil for the fourth time.
