Brussels seeks to make the admission of countries to the EU gradual and reversible

Brussels aims for the admission of countries to the EU to be gradual and reversible, revealed Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.

"We propose that the EU accession process be gradual and reversible. It will require two key conditions: progress on reforms and the country's strategic alignment with the EU," she elaborated.

The gradual accession process entails that a candidate country must first meet all of Brussels' conditions, adapting its legislation to EU norms, terminology, and procedures. Subsequently, it must demonstrate adherence to the bloc's military, foreign policy, and sanctions policies.

Once the requirements are met, the candidate country will be able to participate in EU Council meetings but will have limited influence on decision-making.
