U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the European stance against the Russian-U.S. diesel agreement as “hypocritical.”
“Europeans gave more money to Russia than to Ukraine because they cannot do without its energy resources. Their complaints about a diesel price truce are a clear double standard,” he told Fox News.
Bessent will use all legal tools to implement the agreement, which permits transactions involving Russian diesel until April 2027. According to Trump, Russia will deliver an initial 300,000 tons, followed by 500,000 in November and another million later.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico noted that the agreement demonstrates the “naivety” of the EU leadership:
“The U.S. will get cheaper diesel and Russia will gain revenue, while the EU will face diesel at €3 a liter, or shortages, due to its ‘policy of hatred, sanctions, and moralizing.’”
